About Iki
Beaches
Iki is well known in Japan for its beautiful white-sand-beach spreading around the island that blends with surrounding emerald green sea. You can watch tropical fish and the world's northernmost coral reef area. Also in summer, many tourists visit the island to enjoy many kinds of marine activities, such as diving, banana boating, and cruising.

Shrines
Iki Island, which is 17km long from north to south and 15km long from east to west, has more than 1,000 shrines of various sizes: it is one of the densest in the world. No wonder the island is called the "Island of Gods." You can find some unique shrines: Kojima-jinja shrine, which looks like floating on the sea and you can walk on the approach to the shrine only at low tide, and Ondake-jinja shrine with 200 stone monkeys sitting in rows.

History
Iki Island has a lot of histories and transitions. Haru-no-Tsuji Ruins is the former site of a large scale moat settlement flourished 2000 years ago, which is designated as one of the only three National Special Historic Sites. Many other historical and traditional cultures are preserved: for example, the 1500-year-old burial mounds and the 700-year-old Shinto music and dance numbers. You can enjoy learning the history of the island at Ikikoku Museum.
